Hugo Pratt Comics Awards: from the urban installation on the Senigallia pier to the exhibition at the Rocca Roveresca, the first edition of the international award dedicated to graphic literature takes shape. The final event to discover the winners of the 2025 edition will be held on October 25 in Senigallia.

THE PROJECT

The Hugo Pratt Comics Awards were created to promote the education and creativity of a new generation of comic artists and storytellers, paying tribute to a language that Hugo Pratt himself described as “graphic literature.”

Promoted by Cong SA and the I Gabbiani di Hugo Association, under the patronage of the City of Senigallia, the Marche Region, and the Harbour Master’s Office, and with the support of Rizzoli Lizard, Piko Print, Favini, and the Rocca Roveresca, the award is dedicated to European comic art schools — the places where the voices of the future are born and shaped.
More than forty institutions from Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, and England have joined the project, involving hundreds of students.

CATEGORIES AND JURY

Participants competed in four key areas of the comic art language: Best Original Comic, Best Drawing, Best Screenplay, and Best Colouring.
The works were evaluated by an international jury of 22 experts — including journalists, authors, publishers, critics, and scholars — who selected the shortlist of seven finalists. Some works were nominated in more than one category, reflecting the coherence and narrative strength of the projects presented.

FROM THE CITY TO THE MUSEUM: THE EXHIBITION JOURNEY

The journey of the Hugo Pratt Award began in summer with the large urban installation on the Senigallia pier, a public art project that brought panels from Corte Sconta detta Arcana into dialogue with the sea landscape and the city.
The initiative transformed the pier into a visual corridor dedicated to imagination and memory, celebrating Pratt’s enduring legacy.

HUgo Pratt Comics Awards
The exhibition, curated by Patrizia Zaniotti and Giorgio Amadei, is part of the series of tributes planned for the “Pratt Triennium” — a three-year programme that began this year with the 30th anniversary of Hugo Pratt’s passing and will conclude in 2027, marking the centenary of his birth.

From 11 October to 30 November 2025, the Rocca Roveresca hosts the exhibition “Hugo Pratt – Life, Works and Readings”, structured in two sections:

The first is dedicated to Hugo Pratt, his travels, readings, and sources of inspiration that gave shape to his idea of graphic literature: from African landscapes to the silence of deserts, passing through Argentina, Genoa, and Venice — a journey that reflects the man, the author, and the unforgettable characters he created.

The second section is devoted to the finalists of the Award, where the students’ drawings and stories engage in an ideal dialogue with Pratt’s universe.

THE AWARD CEREMONY

On 25 October 2025, the award ceremony will take place in Senigallia, during which the winners of the four categories and the overall work will be announced. The awarded projects will become part of the exhibition at the Rocca Roveresca, enriching it with new chapters.

With the Hugo Pratt Award, Cong SA — creator of the project together with the Associazione I Gabbiani di Hugo — reaffirms its commitment to promoting visual culture and supporting artistic education, laying the foundations for a lasting dialogue between schools, publishers, institutions, and the public.
A project that looks to the future of comics as a universal language, capable of connecting generations through the power of images and stories.
