Stroll alongside Corto Maltese: starting July 9th, the port of Senigallia will be transformed into a drawn story, the first stage of a journey that will conclude with the first edition of the Hugo Pratt Comics Awards in October 2025.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the urban installation Il porto racconta Corto in 100 blocchi” will be inaugurated on the Molo di Levante in Senigallia. This is the initial project of a long journey dedicated to illustrated literature that the city in the Marche region will host in the coming months.

Along more than one hundred restored and repainted breakwater blocks, composite aluminum panels featuring color reproductions of vignettes from Corte sconta detta arcana have been installed. This permanent public art installation transforms the pier promenade into an open-air narrative experience.

The initiative anticipates two major events scheduled for October:

– From October 1st to November 30th, the exhibition From Pratt’s Legendary Library to the Fantastic Adventures of Corto will be held in the evocative underground chambers of the Rocca Roveresca, accompanied by a display of the finalist works from the competition dedicated to comics schools;
– On October 25th, the awards ceremony for the first edition of the Hugo Pratt Comics Awards will take place at the San Rocco Auditorium, with over 40 participating comics schools from across Europe.

The entire project is the result of a collaboration between Giorgio Amadei, founder of the cultural association I Gabbiani di Hugo, and Patrizia Zanotti, managing director of Cong S.A.
Produced in partnership with Rizzoli Lizard, Favini, and Piko Print, and supported by the Municipality of Senigallia, the initiative also benefits from the patronage of the Marche Region and the Port Authority.

At the end of the Molo di Levante, after a stroll through the images of Corte sconta detta arcana, visitors will encounter the statue of Penelope — wife of Ulysses, the first sailor ever drawn by Hugo Pratt. That story first appeared in the pages of Corriere dei Piccoli in the 1960s and has recently been republished by Cong Edizioni.

For Pratt, Homer was the origin of all adventure tales.
That same spirit now animates the urban installation, the exhibition, and perhaps even the imagination of the students from across Europe taking part in the first edition of the Hugo Pratt Comics Awards.
