El Cacique Blanco (1951)

Texts by Alberto Ongaro

Drawings by Hugo Pratt

This 168-page saga appeared in the Argentine weekly “Misterix”,
from issue 167 (November, 1951), editorial Abril.

The story is set in 1947 and the action takes place in Durban, South Africa, where the explorer Bob Farlene arrives to meet a friend who has, in the meantime, gone missing. “Our hero” thus begins a quest that leads him into perilous adventures amidst diamonds, natives and a hodgepodge of criminals. After being elected white chief (“El cacique blanco” of the series’ title) of the Usutu tribe, he falls hopelessly in love with an extremely beautiful blonde that he has seen only in photographs. After a variety of adventures he at last wins the girl from the photo, Eva Alden.
